Innovating Land Based Salmon Farming – a sustainable, efficient, and humane future for aquaculture

The idea for Cold Water to grow salmon in a recirculating system (RAS) came from the founders’ experience with Swiss Lachs in Switzerland, which remains the only farm in the world where salmon eggs are turned into smoked salmon!

We Are A Completely Sustainable Land Based Salmon Farm

Land-based salmon farms are completely sustainable, use minimal chemicals and zero antibiotics, there are no fish escapes or any damage to the environment. This technology is known as RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System).

4 Pillars of our Business

COLD WATER AG is a Swiss company founded in 2020 by Julian Connor, the founder of Switzerland’s first land-based salmon farm; Swiss Lachs.

ColdWater has secured several sites in Europe and the US (including Ireland, U.K., Spain and Texas, USA) which are at various stages of licencing and development. Our site in Galway, Ireland is the only site currently in production.

1. Direct Sales

Strategically located salmon farms on the doorstep of affluent European cities will allow easy access and direct sales to the consumer. Selling salmon directly to the consumer increases the profitability of the farm by a factor of between 3 and 5 depending upon the product.

2. Production Capacity. Market Size:

The Europe salmon market reached 1,829,450 Tons in 2024 and is projected to reach 2,362,290 Tons by 2033.

In 2022, salmon imports to the EU value increased 28% to reach a 10-year high of €8.4 billion.

The European salmon market is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 2.74% during 2025-2033.

Each COLD WATER facility will have a manageable production capacity of 240-1600 mt/year. This will take advantage of a competitive cost of production whilst at the same time ensuring that the percentage of direct sales will be significant enough to dramatically affect the ROI.

3. Premium Brand Building

The Swiss experience has shown that customers pay more for high quality locally produced fish. The sustainability along with the antibiotic free aspect enabled the Swiss facility to sell at approximately 50% higher prices than imported Norwegian or Scottish salmon.

4. Market Position

The Irish facility will be the first in the country to grow salmon to full commercial size of 4-5kg on land. Due to the strong consumer preference for Irish-produced fish in Europe, we will have no difficulty finding customers willing to pay a premium price. We intend to partner with one of the premiere salmon smokeries in Connemara to create added-value for our products.

Join us in supporting the sustainable, efficient, and humane future of aquaculture through land-based salmon farming.

COLD WATER rely on both public and private investment to open each facility. Once fully operational, investors will see a sizeable return on their investment, via sales of salmon (fresh, smoked, grazed, mousse), caviar, gift sets, gift vouchers and accessories.
